Surf Coast Trek participants have raised an astounding $149,635 for Kids Plus Foundation and Give Where You Live Foundation, following the Virtual Trek held on Saturday, 28 March.
Due to the situation that evolved with COVID-19, we took our Trek online! One of the aspects of the Surf Coast Trek we love is the sense of community and the spirit of supporting each other, so we kept this alive with the Virtual Trek. As we all practiced social distancing at home or wherever we were, and with the recent closures of gyms, it’s more important than ever to keep our bodies moving and stay active.
Over its FIVE-year history, the event has raised over $1 million for the two Geelong-based foundations. Funds will be split equally between the two Foundations, with $74,817.50 going directly to Kids Plus and Give Where You Live.
Over 1000 trekkers signed up for the Surf Coast Trek on Saturday, 28 March, making it the most people to undertake the event since its inception in 2016. Trekkers made their way through 40km in the comfort of their own homes and neighbourhoods. Whether it was doing some gardening, walking on the treadmill or walking the dog, Trekkers were committed in having their own Virtual Trek and coming together as one community.
The Surf Coast Trek serves as the largest fundraising event each year for the two foundations and makes an incredible difference to the work they can do for the community.
