Harriet Mathers is happy and cheeky 6 year old Geelong girl living with a range of special needs that require 24 hour care. ‘Hattie’ has Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, low vision and a profound intellectual disability; she is unable to talk, walk or self-feed. Her parents Ali and Andy first came to Kids+ when Hattie was just 12 months old and have relied on the support and intensive therapy provided by Kids Plus Foundation. Andy is General Manager of local radio stations K-ROCK and BayFM, a volunteer Director of Kids Plus Foundation and as a parent knows first-hand the essential work provided to much needed families and the substantial costs involved. Ali is also a mum to two other children (Fergus and Esther) and like so many Geelong families living with kids with special needs, juggles the daily care requirements of Hattie with those of a very busy family. “Without the support and care of Kids+, both Hattie and our family would not be where we are today.” Ali Mathers.
