We’re excited to share a bit more about our sponsors for 2020; what they stand for, what they do and what led them to supporting the Surf Coast Trek.
Introducing for 2020… K rock and bay 93.9!
Can you please tell us a little bit about your business?
K rock and bay 93.9 are your local Geelong Radio Stations. K rock is primarily focused on the under 40 market whilst bay 93.9 is the over 35 market. Both stations are incredibly community-minded, pride themselves on being local and have a passion for all things music. Our business provides multi-platform opportunities across radio, digital, print and outdoor. The strong brand presence has been evident in our latest survey results indicating that K rock is #1 for all people 10+ and bay 93.9 being the #1 station most listened to most.
What made you decide to support the Surf Coast Trek as a sponsor?
We love what Give Where You Live do for the community and as a long term partner we were thrilled to be involved in the Surf Coast Trek. The exceptional work that GWYL do is a testament to the kind of people that exist in the community and we are both proud and humbled to be big supporters of that.
The Surf Coast Trek is particularly close to our hearts as the Kids Plus Foundation is a wonderful organisation that helps children like our General Manager’s daughter Harriet (Hattie) Mathers. As we crossed the line in 2019 our team “Hattie’s Heroes” couldn’t wipe our smiles off our faces being joined by GM Andy, his wife Ali and little Hattie. It made the sore feet all worthwhile!
Why is supporting the community important for your business?
Our community are what keeps us motivated to deliver quality radio every single day, without them we wouldn’t exist. In return we want to be able to give back to the community and support partners, events and fundraisers where possible.
What message would you like to give trekkers undertaking the Surf Coast Trek?
Don’t give up! It’s definitely a challenge, but when you cross that finish line it’s worth every painful step walked to bring a smile to those who may not be able to do the same.
What are you most looking forward to about being involved with the Surf Coast Trek 2020?
The community spirit of this event is like no other, the supportive nature of the volunteers, fellow trekkers and those encouraging from the sideline bring so much joy and it’s one of our favourite events of the year.
What do staff get out of the team experience and how do you get them involved?
A fantastic team spirit, friendships and laughter, not only on the day, but in the lead up with fundraisers, training and friendly banter. We encourage all staff to get involved whether it’s by becoming a member of our team, Hattie’s Heroes, or donating to our team online or through our various morning teas to raise funds.
